When I was working for a Class III dealer, he had an over/under shotgun cut down to about six inches of barrel. He removed the block in it's folding mechanism so it would literally fold backwards on itself and fit in a lunch box.

Sold one like it to undercover drug cops in FLA. He said he got a 'thank you' note and the story went like this.

As an undercover cop, this guy had this folding shotgun in his 'lunch box'. He walked up to a car with two 'known drug dealers'. He was 'looking ratty' like a working stiff. He sat down in front of the car on the curb and that was parked on the street, making like he was going to 'eat lunch'. Carefully removing the double barrel shotgun and closing it, he sidled up to the open window on the passenger side.

When he put the double barrels on the window sill, both guys eyes got as large as saucers. At that distance there would not have been much left if he pulled the triggers. With his free hand, he pulled his badge out from under his shirt (on a chain) and let them see it.

He told them to SLOWLY put their hands on the dash and they would live to talk to their attorney. They both CAREFULLY leaned forward with their hands on the dash. The guy then called in his back up and off the BG's went to jail.

These types of shotguns effective range is less than 10 yards. But dang, it WILL make a mess of things in that space.
